Good News / Bad news
Well the good news is is that I have a lot of new work to put up. The bad news is I might not be able to put anything on here any time soon. I have a TON of work to do. I have a lot of Finals to get done which includes 4 different illustrations, a painting, 2 six page papers ( as well as tests) and another project I'm working on and all the due dates are the same week as my birthday lol. I'm not complaining about my work load, every last 3 weeks of the semester is like this. This just means you are going to see the work either in 2 weeks or VERY slowly over the next few weeks. Since me and Tommy ( the guy who photographs my pastel work) will be busy, it's going to take awhile. Please bear with me , trust me I WILL get all the work up eventually.

The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Something I did for the Wild West Illustration show at my school. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is my favorite movie of All time. I promise to upload a better quality picture when I get back but this is what I have for now.
Internet Neutrality Propaganda
This was an Assignment to make a propaganda poster for a cause you believe in. I am a HUGE supporter of Internet neutrality. I fully support trying to keep our internet free and unregulated and that priviledge is being threatened to learn more visit savetheinternet.com. But this turned out ok I think I will make the copyright symbol pop out a bit more though. admittedly this is not my best work but I feel it's still good.
A Sound of Thunder
I just realized there are a few Illustrations from this semester I forgot to upload This one being an image to be formatted for an Iphone for the short story, A Sound of Thunder. this is one of my more prouder digital illustration attempts.

Skydiving Fox
I was pretty happy with this one, something about drawing a skydiving fox really inspired me. I wish I could say the concept was my own but the assignment that sprung this on involved us doing sketches for the upcoming homework and then the teacher exchanged all the sketches so we worked on someone else's concept. The concept I had in mind for the assignment (the secret lives of pets) was a telemarketing parrot.

A New Tool for Dentists
The assignment was to sell the given object (in this case a hammer) to a target audience not many people would think of. So I chose to advertise the hammer as a tool for dentists. Some times even I wonder how my thought process works in such strange ways.
The Thing
Another one from digital illustration. It was supposed to be a horror movie poster with only using Adobe Illustrator. I LOVE John Carpenter's The Thing (yes, the original is is good too) so I did that.
Epic Hammer
The idea for this was to make an inanimate object feel like what it does. This is what I came up with, a hammer with a Robert Liefeld-esque arm/ handle.
Mind Control
This was an Illustration 4 assignment to make a young adult novel cover for a novel we make up. So I made up a story about a sorcerer who controls peoples' minds with a crystal ball and he uses this power with very horrible intentions. Think of a psychotic old David Bowie from Labyrinth... on second thought, don't.
Dracula
This was the first assignment we had for for my digital illustration class. I had experience prior to this class in doing digital illustration but I really wanted to take a class so I knew what was doing. I love working digitally and I like to think of it as my second best medium.
This assignment was to make a book cover from a selection of famous horror stories (of which there were numerous titles that I was a HUGE fan of). As you can see I chose Bram Stoker's Dracula. It came out pretty good, I'm happy with the results.

World Record
Most of what you are going to see on this blog is work (and work in progress) for my Illustration classes. This one not being an exception. This was my second pastel work of last semester in Illustration 3. I found this to be a very important work because it was the first time I was sure I was truly clicking with a media. From this assignment on most of my Illustrations were done in pastel.
As for the concept, the assignment was to make an illustration for a world record that would be next Guinness Book of World Records. So I chose to go with the youngest person in the word to wear dentures...strange and obscure though the record may be, I'm quite happy with the way this came out.

Welcome to the Realm of Dock Howard
Hello! I am Dock Howard and this is my first blog posting of many to come of this blog dedicated to my Illustration work. I will mostly be posting my illustration work or general thoughts, developments or artistic epiphanies (doesn't happen often) as they happen or as soon as I can. I hope you enjoy the manifestations of this strange mind that I posses!
